Fax2email
The number is setup on our system with the email you wish all faxes to be forwarded to. When a call comes in on that line, our equipment answers the call and receives the fax. Once the fax is complete, the fax is converted to a TIFF file and sent to the email address that was setup on the the account.
There is no provision for sending faxes with this service, it is for reception only.
Local rate, Flat rate and Personal number redirection numbers
Both these services require that you have a landline to direct the calls to. When a call comes in our equipment dials your number and when you pick up, answers the phone and puts them straight through. Callers wont normally know that the call is being redirected and as such these numbers are good for protecting your privacy. If you want to dispose of the phone number just disable it and don't pay for its renewal. The other advantage of a number such as this is that if you change locations often then you can change where it dials from any internet connection.
HostPagan mailbox service
The mailbox service is very similar to an answer phone. Callers call in, enter your mailbox number, listen to your message if you have set one up and can leave a message.
To retrieve the messages you can choose from either viewing and listening on the web site, dialing in and retrieving the messages from any phone or having them sent to your email address.
Broadband phone
A little adaptor is plugged into your broadband connection. You then plug your phone into the adaptor and you have an extra phone line. These aren't ideal for devices such as fax machines and card payment systems, but they may work (but performance is likely to be poor and this will be unsupported by us in case of problems).
The main advantage of a broadband phone is its flexibility. They will work anywhere where there is a broadband internet connection and can be moved from location to location if desired. The drawback is that if you also use your broadband for other application that load it heavily such as peer to peer file sharing or you have a computer with a malware infection, then voice quality may suffer. Because an adaptor is used, you don't have to leave your computer on all the time and the adaptors we use are very low powered, typically less than 5Watts.
SIP or IAX phone numbers
These are for much more advanced configurations where you have gone beyond normal broadband phones and have an IP PBX (possibly based on Asterisk or a derivative project) which allows you to have a full internal phone system for just the cost of a second hand PC (assuming small installations) and one or more IP (VoIP) phone or adaptor (ATA).
